Getting to know you
Hi! I’m Andy and as a result of lockdown, I’ve rekindled a childhood pastime – making model aircraft.
All model kits (hopefully) come with instructions, so in the spirit of modelling, please read the following carefully to get the most out of this experience.
I’ll be honest and say that I’m an “ok” modeller; I’m pretty happy with construction, however I’m not so great when it comes to painting. So if you’re expecting a step-by-step guide on creating the perfect masterpiece, then you may want to look elsewhere (there will be a post providing links) . If you’re interested in sharing the ups and downs of model making by an enthusiastic amateur, then welcome; let’s see where this journey takes us.
This blog will mainly focus on my attempts to complete the following models:
- English Electric Lightning (almost complete)
- Airfix Vickers Valiant B (PR) K.1
- Airfix Handley Page Victor B.Mk.2

Some of you may have spotted a pattern here…. and you’d be right.
Aside from the Lightning, these are by far the largest kits I’ve ever tackled; and when that is combined with my interest in the subjects, I set out with a decent amount of trepidation. But then no-one ever said that this would be easy, and the greater the risk the greater the ultimate reward.
So, I’m hoping that the patience and lessons I’ve learned together with the skills I’ve revived on the Lightning build will result in something to be proud of. I’m also hoping that this blog will allow me to track and share my progress and experiences. So, let’s head over to the bench and see what we’ve got.
